This page has now been updated to include projects from all three phases of the UKOER Programme and is incorporated into the UKOER Guides Institutional Aspects and UKOER Guides Cultural Aspects pages. Please go there for up to date information. Thanks
The business cases for OER vary in different types of institution and community. In one interpretation, the most compelling and sustainable case for open sharing exists at the level of the topic community (possibly even research-based?) within a discipline. While projects have taken on board the need to develop effective institutional business cases, they are also mindful that different users (CPD users, informal learners, Lifelong Learners, students on programmes, teaching staff, librarians, resource developers, and HEIs) each have a different case, and a different balance of costs/benefits.
Most projects address issues of business cases and benefits in their final reports. Several have also addressed these in staff workshops and presentations. These outputs are listed on the main outputs page Pilot Programme - OER Release Outputs. Some of the issues relating to changing cultures and perceptions meant that projects had to focus on benefits with their various stakeholder groups. Some of the outputs listed on the Pilot programme outputs - Cultural issues focus on benefits (particularly in relation to reward and recognition for individual academics).
